Vintage 1970 Extremely Rare Cartier Solid Sterling Silver Malachite Oval Lighter – Factory Made – 98 g

This Cartier lighter, released in 1970, is an exceptionally rare early example from the Maison’s precious‑metal production and one of the most distinctive executions from the early Must de Cartier era. Crafted in solid 925 sterling silver and set with striking malachite stone inlay, the piece reflects the meticulous handwork and refined craftsmanship characteristic of Cartier’s early luxury lighter designs. The oval silhouette represents one of Cartier’s earliest and most recognizable lighter forms, combining elegant proportions with substantial weight and presence. Due to the fragile nature of malachite and the limited production of sterling silver models during this period, surviving examples in preserved condition are exceptionally uncommon. The base lighter was produced in Switzerland and later sent to Italy, where authorized Cartier artisans completed the hand-finishing. It was then returned to France and delivered through Cartier boutiques as a special-order piece, typically reserved for select clients and produced only after advance payment. Such examples were commissioned rather than mass-produced, making them particularly desirable to collectors.
