This exceptional Cartier lighter, crafted in the early 1970s, is a distinguished example of the renowned Must de Cartier sterling silver collection. Meticulously executed in solid 925 sterling silver, it is enhanced by factory-applied 18K solid gold accent strips that create an elegant contrast between the two precious metals. The result is a timeless design that showcases Cartier’s celebrated craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to luxury materials.
The lighter features a distinctive oval shape—an uncommon and highly sought‑after form within Cartier’s production—combined with a sophisticated horizontal line pattern. The body is executed in factory‑made solid sterling silver with clear hallmarks, complemented by solid gold bars seamlessly integrated into the design. These luxurious materials and the precision required to craft them highlight Cartier’s commitment to excellence.
Due to the complexity and cost of working with solid silver and gold, Cartier produced only a limited number of such models during the late 20th century. As a result, pieces like this remain scarce and highly desirable among collectors. Preserved in outstanding condition and accompanied by its original box and full booklet set, this lighter represents a rare opportunity to acquire a distinguished Cartier collectible.
On certain Cartier solid silver models featuring 18k gold accents, the gold components may not carry a visible hallmark. This is intentional. During production, Cartier’s artisans sometimes chose not to stamp hallmarks on highly visible gold elements in order to preserve the clean lines and refined aesthetic of the design.
Applying a hallmark on these polished surfaces could interrupt the visual harmony or create slight surface deformation, which was considered undesirable for high-end pieces.
All material specifications were originally documented in Cartier’s internal catalogs and communicated to clients at the time of release. The presence or absence of a hallmark on gold accents was therefore a design decision made by the artisan—not an indication of material inconsistency.
This approach is also seen in other luxury items (e.g., certain two-tone Rolex components), where maintaining aesthetic integrity takes precedence over visible stamping.
