This extraordinary vintage Cartier Must de Cartier Oval lighter, crafted in the early 1970s, is one of the rarest solid silver examples produced by the Maison. Handcrafted in solid 925 sterling silver and finished with a deep natural dark green lacquer, this exceptional piece represents the highest level of Cartier’s early lighter craftsmanship.

What makes this lighter particularly remarkable is its unique manufacturing history. Although the lighter is Swiss-made, it bears both the 925 sterling silver hallmarks on the body and underside, together with the Made in Italy marking beneath the lighter. This indicates that the Swiss-manufactured lighter was sent to Cartier’s Italian silversmith workshops, where the body was hand-finished in solid sterling silver before receiving its exquisite natural lacquer decoration. This specialized production process resulted in an exceptionally rare configuration that is seldom encountered today.

Produced in very limited numbers due to the complexity and cost of combining handcrafted sterling silver with natural lacquer, this model represents one of Cartier’s earliest and most prestigious lighter designs.
