The Rest by Murmmr is a solid wood base designed specifically to fit the crystal domes of the Murmmr ashtray collection. Precision milled for a secure fit, it gives the dome a dedicated resting surface while also creating a substantial display base for the complete ashtray.
Available in rift sawn oak, walnut, and blackened rift sawn oak, each version is made from solid wood with no veneer. The oak and walnut are hand finished with food safe cutting board oil, while the blackened oak is treated using Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese flame treatment that darkens the wood and brings out its natural grain.
Each Rest features an inset Murmmr brass disc and measures 7 inches square by 1.625 inches thick, with a weight of over 2 pounds.
Use The Rest beneath the assembled ashtray, as a resting place for the crystal dome when open, or as a surface for your cigar or smoking material of choice. Each arrives in a custom wooden crate.

Murmmr approaches the ashtray as an object of design rather than something to be hidden away. Founded by designer Greg Long after more than thirty years of creating consumer products, Murmmr was built around a desire to slow down and focus on making one object at a time, with careful attention given to every detail.
Each piece is produced in collaboration with small, family owned European workshops and skilled craftspeople, including generations of experienced glassmakers. Crystal, metal, and wood are carefully brought together to create ashtrays that are as much decorative objects as they are functional pieces.
At the center of the design is Murmmr’s distinctive crystal dome. Created to address both the appearance and aroma of a traditional ashtray, the dome also captures the movement of smoke inside, turning something normally fleeting into part of the experience.
Every piece is individually inspected before engraving, numbering, and final assembly. Metalwork is carefully polished, wood components are hand finished, and each completed piece is accompanied by a matching numbered Proof of Originality.
Made in small quantities and finished by hand, Murmmr ashtrays celebrate traditional craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the simple pleasure of a beautifully made object.
